Needham, is a town located on rocky uplands within a loop of the Charles River in the eastern section of Norfolk County. The town is bordered by Wellesley on the west and northwest, Newton on the north and northeast, the West Roxbury section of Boston on the east, Dedham on the southeast and south, and Westwood and Dover on the south. Needham is 10 miles southwest of Boston, 29 miles east of Worcester, and about 208 miles from New York City.

Needham provides easy access to Boston for commuters and to a significant number of local job slots. Needham has multiple commuter rail stops, as well as having access to the Mass Pike and 128/95, making it a desirable place to live for families and commuters.

EDUCATION

The town of Needham has one high school, Needham High School, which underwent a major renovation in 2009, two middle schools, William F. Pollard Middle School, for seventh to eighth grades, High Rock School for sixth grade only, and five elementary schools. Needham is also home to several private schools such as Saint Joseph’s Elementary School, Saint Sebastian’s School, and Monsignor Haddad Middle School. The Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering is located in Needham as well.

RECREATIONAL AREA

Needham boasts a wonderful parks and recreation system for both their residents and visitors alike. The town offers the Charles River Family YMCA, many different types of yoga classes, the Needham Golf Club, Kids U Needham, and various parks and playgrounds, such as the Greene’s Field Playground.

Along with the recreational parks, playgrounds, and facilities, the town is also home to the Needham Historical Society, which helps to preserve the rich history of the town. The society runs programs, as well as hosts lectures, workshops, special events, and projects with the Needham schools, such as an authentic “1850s Schoolhouse Day” and a “1775 Town Meeting”.
